These caterpillars have been found pupating on a tree trunk in a cocoon covered in bits of bark and debris.

The adult moths of this species have dark brown forewings with a subtle pattern, and white hindwings with broad black margins and dark basal areas. The black margins of the hindwings sometimes contain white patches. The wingspan is about 5 cms.

This species occurs around the world in the tropics, including:

  • Cocos/Keeling Islands,
  • South Africa, and
  • Thailand,

    as well as the subspecies ecclesiastica occuring Australia in:

  • Northern Territory, and
  • Queensland.
