The adult moths are small and brown.

The pheromones of this species have been identified. The species occurs world-wide, including much of Australia.

Attempts are being made to control it using :

• breeding resistant transgenic Bt cotton varieties,
• the wasp Microchelonus blackburni ( BRACONIDAE ),
• pheromone traps,
• Nematodes,
• sterile insect release, and
• burning the stubble.
