This species has been introduced into Australia by accident. The Caterpillars of this moth are a world-wide pest on stored nuts.
The adult moths of this species are dimorphic. The females have brown forewings with a large dark spot. The males are similar but have a smaller spot, and they also have a zig-zag orange mark near each forewing inner margin. The wingspan is about 2 cms.
