some info about andrew johnston

Well it seems this page might have some information about me and the things I'm up to. Mostly this is about the things I do in the creativity and cognition studios at the University of Technology Sydney where I work as a lecturer and PhD student. My main focus - at the moment the PhD - is on the creation of interactive performance works and virtual instruments for musicians.

The basic idea behind these virtual instruments is that by playing with them a musician might:

• be stimulated to explore new ways of expressing themselves;
• use the virtual instrument as an extension of their acoustic instrument to create new sounds;
• discover something about their playing they were not aware of previously;
• have fun.
