Brief CV:
I received a BSc degree from Fudan University, Shanghai, China, an MSc degree from Jilin University, Changchun, China, a PhD degree from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, and a DSc degree (Higher Doctorate) degree from Deakin University, Geelong, Australia, all in Computer Science.
I have been a Lecturer at the University of New England in Australia from January 1990 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in January 1994, and then to Associate Professor in January 1998. I moved to Deakin University as an Associate Professor from January 1999 and moved to the University of Technology, Sydney as a Research Professor from January 2002. I am now the Director of UTS Priority Investment Research Centre for Quantum Computation and Intelligent Systems.
My research interests include "Multi-Agent Systems" and "Data Mining". I am an author or co-author of more than 200 research papers. Some of these papers have been published in renowned international journals which include "Artificial Intelligence", "IEEE Transactions", and "ACM Transactions". I am also a co-author of five monographs and a co-editor of nine books.
I am currently a Chief Investigator in Data Mining Program for Australian Capital Markets on Cooperative Research Centre.
I have more than 18 years teaching experience at the university level. I have also successfully supervised 20 PhD students, and am currently supervising the other 5 PhD students.
I am the Chair of the Australian Computer Society National Committee for Artificial Intelligence, the Chair of the Steering Committee for International Conference on Knowledge Science, Engineering, and Management, a member of Steering Committee for Pacific Rim International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, and a member of Steering Committee of Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining. I am also a Senior Member of the IEEE Computer Society (IEEE), a Fellow of Australian Computer Society (ACS), as well as a Member of Association for the Advancement Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). I am an Associate Editor of the editorial board for IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering from 2005-2008. The Editor for Web Intelligence and Agent Systems: An International Journal (IOS Press). I have served as a Member of Programme Committees in many international or national conferences, such as the PRICAI'94, PRICAI'96, PRICAI'02, PRICAI'06, PRICAI'08, PRICAI’10, ICMAS'96, ICMAS'98, ICMAS'00, AAMAS'02, AAMAS’2004, AAMAS'07, AAMAS’08, AAMAS’09, and ICML'02. I was the Organising Committee Chair for PRICAI 2000 and Program Committee co-chair of Australian AI'94. I was also the Program Committee Co-Chair for PRICAI 2004 (The Eighth Pacific Rim International Conference on Artificial Intelligence), and General Co-Chair for PAKDD 2004 (The Eighth Pacific Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining), KSEM 2006 (The First International Conference on Knowledge Science, Engineering, and Management 2006); ADMA 2006 (The Second International Conference on Advanced Data Mining and Applications), WI/IAT 2008 (The 2008 IEEE/WIC/ACM Joint International Conference on WI/IAT), ICDM 2010 (The 2010 IEEE International Conference on Data Mining).
I am currently editing a special issue for IEEE TKDE for "Domain Driven Data Mining" with Prof. Philip S. Yu and Prof. David Bell. The special issue is scheduled to be published in June 2010.
