Doan B. Hoang received his Ph.D in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Newcastle. He is a Professor of Computer Networks in the School of Computing and Communications, Faculty of Information Technology, the University of Technology, Sydney. He is a Co-Director of iNEXT: UTS Centre for innovation in IT Services and Applications . He is the Director of the ARN networking research group. Before joining UTS, he was an academic staff of Basser Department of Computer Science, University of Sydney. He also held various visiting positions: Visiting Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, University of California, Berkeley ; Visiting Research Professor at Nortel Networks Technology Centre in Santa Clara, USA; Visiting Professor in Computer Communications Network Group, the University of Waterloo, Canada; Senior Research Fellow in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
His industrial experiences include: Voice & Data communications manager in Research and Development Department, Telecommunications, Fujitsu Australia Limited; Senior Network Architect, Nortel Networks, USA; Radiocommunications Engineer, Telecom Australia.
His research interests include Autonomic Programmable Network Platforms, End-to-End Quality of Service (QoS) Architectures, Internet Service Architecture, Wireless Sensor Networks, Grid Computing and Peer-to-Peer Networks, and various aspects of network security (Intrusion detection, visulaization, role-interactio-based). He is currently leading research into the application of IT and networking technologies to assistive healthcare. He has published over 150 research papers in these areas.
