The caterpillars of species in this genus are leaf miners in grasses and sedges.
There are 10 named species of Cosmopterix in Australia, and all the adult moths are superficially similar. They are dark brown with a bright orange band across each forewing. They have a wingspan of about 1 cm. The moth pictured here was caught in Townsville, Queensland.
