This species lives in the rain forests of north Queensland and New Guinea.

The adults are dark brown except for a yellow thorax, yellow forewing tips, a yellow tuft of hair on the tip of the abdomen, and a scarlet edge to the hind wings. They have a wingspan of about 5 cms.
